About the Illinois Coalition for Independent Work

Our Mission:

The Illinois Coalition for Independent Work (ICIW) is working to preserve flexibility and independence for app-based workers and provide the benefits and protections all workers deserve.

Our goal is to help develop a modern legislative framework that can protect app-based platform workers’ ability to choose their schedules and earn income on their terms, while also gaining benefits and protections. Overall, the coalition aims to expand opportunities for workers across all demographics, ethnicities, and backgrounds; strengthen transportation and delivery equity that helps all communities grow and thrive; help brick-and-mortar small businesses, restaurants, and retailers compete in an increasingly online economy; and protect those communities that rely on independent workers and app-based services for their essential needs.

This coalition welcomes dialogue with all who believe that this modern economy needs modern rules that can protect the flexibility app-based workers want and need while offering the benefits and protections they deserve.
