The Illinois Coalition for Independent Work is strongly committed to letting you know how we will collect and use your personal information. We have established this privacy policy (“Privacy Policy”) to let you know the kinds of personal information we may gather during your visit to our websites, why we gather your information, what we use your personal information for, when we might disclose your personal information, and how you can manage your personal information.
By using our websites, you are accepting the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not use our websites. We reserve the right to modify or amend the terms of our Privacy Policy from time to time without notice to you. If you continue to use our websites after we post changes to this Privacy Policy, it will mean that you accept those changes. We may occasionally update this statement. We will reflect any changes on this web page, and will post a notice of such change so that you will always know what information we gather, how we might use that information, and whether we will disclose it to anyone. We encourage you, however, to check back periodically to make sure you understand how any personal information you provide will be used. This privacy statement describes how we treat all user information collected by us during your visit, or when donating to The Illinois Coalition for Independent Work.
Personal information: means information that specifically identifies an individual (such as a name, address, telephone number, mobile number, email address, or credit card number, or other contact and demographic information about that individual that is directly linked to personally identifiable information). Personal information does not include “aggregate” information, which is data we collect about the use of our sites, from which individual identities or other personal information has been removed. This statement does not restrict or limit our collection and use of aggregate information.
Voluntarily Provided Information: We collect certain information you voluntarily provide us, such as when you join or renew your membership, make a donation, sign up for our emails, send correspondence to government officials using our tools, participate in one of our online petitions or surveys, register online for an event, fill out a form, post blog comments or other content, or participate in any activity that requires your personal information.
Cookies: Our site uses “cookies.” A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user’s hard drive containing information about the user. Usage of a cookie is in no way linked to any personally identifiable information while on our site. For instance, by setting a cookie on our site, the user would not have to log in a password more than once, thereby saving time while on our site. If a user rejects the cookie, they may still use our site. The only drawback to this is that the user will be limited in some areas of our site. Cookies can also enable us to track and target the interests of our users to enhance the experience on our site.
Google Analytics: We also use Google services, including Google Analytics and Google AdWords which uses cookies and other, similar technologies to collect information about website use anonymously and reports website trends, without identifying individual visitors. Orders: Our site uses an order form for customers to request information, products, and services. We collect visitor’s contact information (like their email address) and financial information (like their account or credit card numbers if needed). Contact information from the order form is used to send information about our company to our customers. The customer’s contact information is also used to get in touch with the customer when necessary. This information is not shared or resold in any circumstance except under requirement by law or judgment. Users may opt-out of receiving future mailings; see the choice/opt-out section below.
Surveys: Our online surveys ask visitors for contact information (like their email or mailing address). We use contact data from our surveys to send the user information about us and our activities. Users may opt-out of receiving future mailings; see the choice/opt-out section below. Other data collected by online surveys is used to educate us about the interests and concerns of our supporters and general site visitors concerning our mission.
Sharing: If you submit personally identifiable information to us some information, such as your name and mailing and/or email address, may be sold, rented, shared or exchanged with other not for profit organizations. You may opt out of such list sharing by following the Opt-Out Procedures, below.
We will share aggregated demographic information with our partners and advertisers. This is not linked to any personal information that can identify any individual person.
We use an outside shipping company to ship orders, and a credit card processing company to bill users for goods and services. These companies do not retain, share, store or use personally identifiable information for any secondary purposes.
We partner with another party to provide specific services. When the user signs up for these services, we will share names or other contact information that are necessary for the third party to provide these services. These parties are not allowed to use personally identifiable information except for the purpose of providing these services.
We may also use or disclose personal information if required to do so by law or in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary to (a) conform to applicable law or comply with legal process served on us or this site; (b) protect and defend our rights or property, this site or our users, and (c) act under emergency circumstances to protect the personal safety of us, our affiliates, agents, site users, or the public.
We are not responsible for the actions of service providers or other third parties, nor are we responsible for any additional information you provide directly to any third parties, and we encourage you to become familiar with their privacy practices before disclosing information directly to any such parties. Nothing herein restricts the sharing of aggregated or anonymized information, which may be shared with third parties without your consent.
Security: This site has security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse and alteration of the information under our control. This includes a firewall and 24-hour monitoring of site activities by our hosting service provider as well as 128-bit SSL encryption (where allowable by law) on all transaction-oriented operations between you and us via our transaction service provider.
While we use SSL encryption to protect sensitive information online, we also do everything in our power to protect user-information off-line. All of our user information, not just the sensitive information mentioned above, is restricted in our offices. Only employees who need the information to perform a specific job (for example, our billing clerk or a customer service representative) are granted access to personally identifiable information. Our employees must use password-protected screen-savers when they leave their desk. When they return, they must re-enter their password to re-gain access to your information. Furthermore, ALL employees are kept up-to-date on our security and privacy practices. Every quarter, as well as any time new policies are added, our employees are notified and/or reminded about the importance we place on privacy, and what they can do to ensure our customer information is protected. Finally, the servers that we store personally identifiable information on are kept in a secure environment, behind a locked cage.
Children’s Online Privacy Protection: Because we care about the safety and privacy of children online, we comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA). COPPA and its accompanying FTC regulations which protect the privacy of children using the Internet. We do not knowingly collect contact or personal information from children under 13. Our sites are not intended to solicit information of any kind from children under 13, and we have designed our sites to block our knowing acceptance of information from children under 13 whenever age-related information is requested.
It is possible that by fraud or deception by others we may receive information given to us or pertaining to children under 13. If we are notified of this, as soon as we verify the information, we will immediately obtain parental consent or otherwise delete the information from our servers. If you want to notify us of our receipt of information by children under 13, please do so by e-mailing us at info@independentworkIL.org.
Other websites: Throughout our website we provide links to other websites which may contain information of interest to our readers. We take no responsibility for, and exercise no control over, the organizations, views, or accuracy of the information contained on those websites.
Correction/Updating Personal Information: If a user’s personally identifiable information changes (such as your zip code), or if a user no longer desires our service, we will endeavor to provide a way to correct, update or remove that user’s personal data provided to us. This can usually be done by emailing our Customer Support at info@independentworkIL.org.
Choice/Opt-Out: Our site provides users the opportunity to opt-out of receiving communications from us and our partners at the point where we request information about the visitor.
